Building on the knowledge learned in the Fundamentals of PC Repair and the PC Repair Technician Level 1 course, learn to dismantle and reassemble a complete PC system. Learn to identify, repair, and/or replace every component in the PC system. Topics include proper handling of the components, troubleshooting and repair techniques, and safety of both the system and the user. Students work with motherboards, CPUs, power supplies, BIOS, memory, video cards, hard drives, CD-ROMs, sound cards, network cards, SCSI, and printers. Skills include advanced troubleshooting techniques of the hardware/software relationships including device drivers, IRQs, DMAs, and I/O addresses. This course culminates with participants using these acquired skills to build a LAN and troubleshoot for issues. Enrollment in level one requires dual enrollment in the three required labs. CST I and II's curriculum covers the exam objectives for the CompTIA A+ Core One Exam. In the ST III series, participants will begin preparing for the CompTIA A+ Core Two Exam. In the course, participants will build on their OS knowledge, explore macOS and Linux, and begin learning about security threats and protocols for reducing vulnerabilities. no material purchase required. Dual enrollment in the four accompanying labs is required.
In the ST IV series, participants will use their cumulated knowledge to advance into more challenging troubleshooting scenarios and go deeper into command line usage. Upon completion of this course, graduates will depart with guidance on documentation best practices and professionalism in the field. No material purchase is required. Dual enrollment in the two accompanying labs is required.
