The core exhibit of the museum has three parts, exploring the day of September 11, events before 9/11 and events after 9/11. It tells the story of what happened on 9/11/2001, including the events at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and the story of Flight 93. The exhibition explores the background leading up to the events and examines their aftermath and continuing implications. The memorial exhibition, which is named In Memoriam, commemorates the lives of those who perished and provides visitors with the opportunity to learn about these men, women and children. You will have a guided walking tour of the memorial and then move to museum with plenty of time to explore on your own. Lunch is available at the Museum cafe.
Experience Longwood Gardens in its holiday finery. Have an early dinner or late lunch in The Cafe and afterwards wander the Conservatory to see thousands of poinsettias, decorated trees and other fragrant holiday flowers! Stroll through a half-millions lights in the outside gardens and enjoy cozy fire pits and a festive Garden Railway. Don't forget to enjoy time in the Open Air Theatre and witness a wonderful fountain display with holiday color and festive music. Round trip transportation and Garden admission included. The Downtown Tour of Asheville starts our journey. Thomas House: Considered by many to be one of the giants of 20th-century American literature, Thomas Wolfe immortalized his childhood home in his epic autobiographical novel, Look Homeward, Angel. Wolfe’s colorful portrayal of his family, his hometown of “Altamont” Asheville, North Carolina, and “Dixieland” the Old Kentucky Home boardinghouse, earned the Victorian period house a place as one of American literature’s most famous landmarks.
Next, we visit the Biltmore Estates: Relax before the hectic holidays on this delightful tour taking you to beautiful places, examining Christmas traditions and leaving you with fond memories. The highlight of the adventure is Christmas at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, where “The Driveway is Measured in Miles and The Floor Plan is Measured in Acres.”
On our return trip we will drive on the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, free time at Southern Highland Craft Guild, Folk Art Center as well as a stop at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. More than 20 bed and breakfast inns, guesthouses, hotels, and churches open their doors and share their charm, holiday cheer, and Victorian interiors during the annual Candlelight House Tour. Free shuttle service on heated trolleys and two refreshment stations with fresh-baked cookies, wassail, tea and coffee await you as you embark on the self-guided tour of Cape May's finest. You will have time to see the town and grab a bite to eat before the candlelight tour begins at 5:30 p.m. Bus leaves Cape May at 9 p.m. for the return trip to HCC. Dress for the weather.
A pedicab tour of Central Park is a great way to see the sights without doing a lot of work! Your driver will show you many well-known attractions and famous landmarks throughout all parts of Central Park. From an initial gift of eight prints and one drawing, The New York City Museum of Modern Art's collection has grown to include 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, and photographs. Explore the museum, beginning with a guided highlights tour, and then spend time on your own enjoying the multiple collections and visiting exhibits. The Museum requires visitors to check backpacks of any size, shopping bags, and bags 11 x 14 inches (28 x 35.5 cm) or larger. To avoid a lengthy wait in the checkroom line, visitors should not bring such items. The checkroom will not accept laptops or luggage of any size. The Physick Family house tour includes shopping at the gift shop and a view of an old-fashioned Christmas exhibit at the Carroll Gallery as well as a trolley tour to see the historical town decorated for the holidays. Lunch will be included with your trip fee.
