This course is for individuals who have some riding experience and are seeking a Class "M" license. The prerequisites for this course include the ability to use the clutch and throttle to get the motorcycle in motion, stop the motorcycle properly in a designated area, execute gradual and tight turns, up- and down-shift smoothly, and achieve a speed of at least 25 mph. Riders who cannot demonstrate minimum riding proficiency will not be allowed to continue and will need to consider enrolling in the Basic Rider Course. Riders can elect to use a program training motorcycle, or they may use their personal motorcycle if it is street legal and they transport it to the training site legally. There is no guarantee that an individual enrolling in this course will pass or get his/her license. Please include driver's license number on registration form. If a participant student is under 18 years of age, he/she must have a parent or legal guardian present at first class session to sign release waiver. Senior adult and disabled retiree tuition waivers apply.
Designed for the novice rider who has little or no riding experience. Includes an at-home eCourse, formal classroom, and riding instruction on the basic riding skills and strategies necessary for an individual to begin to practice street riding. Courses are taught by Motor Vehicle Administration and Motorcycle
Safety Foundation certified Instructors/RiderCoaches. You should be able to ride a bicycle to participate in this course. You must provide driver's license and valid emaill address at the time of registration.
To be prepared to participate in the first class session you must read Pages 5-24, Unit II, Risk Awareness, through all of Unit III in the Motorcycle Safety Foundation BRC Rider Handbook. You can view the book from this link,

Within 30 days of your course start date, you will receive instructions for the eCourse. Prior to your first riding session, you must present a copy of your eCourse Completion Certificate to your instructor.
To pass the course, you must participate in all the course sessions and pass a knowledge test and on-cycle test. Riders satisfactorily completing the Basic Rider Course are eligible to receive a Maryland Completion Card and their Class M license. If a student is under 18 years of age, he/she must have a parent or legal guardian present at first class session to sign release waiver. Senior adult and disabled retiree course fee waivers apply.
